Mike Ditka, former head coach of the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, is the newest member of The NFL Today, the CBS Television Network's NFL pre-game studio show.

He joined CBS Sports in February 2000 after serving as head coach of the New Orleans Saints for three years. Before that, he served as a studio analyst for NBC Sports on the "NFL on NBC" (1993-96). He will join Jim Nantz, Craig James, Randy Cross, Jerry Glanville and Marcus Allen in the studio.

Prior to his stints with the Saints and in television, Ditka was the head coach of the Chicago Bears for eleven seasons, highlighted by the 1985 season when he led the Bears to an 18-1 record and a Super Bowl XX victory over the New England Patriots. During Ditka's years with the Bears, his teams dominated the NFC Central with 52 regular season victories between 1985 and 1988, six NFC Central titles, three appearances in the NFC title game and a Super Bowl victory. He was twice named Coach of the Year (1985 and 1988) and compiled an overall record of 127-101.

Ditka begin his Hall of Fame career in 1961 when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round (fifth overall) from the University of Pittsburgh. He played six seasons with the Bears, earning 1961 NFL Rookie of the Year honors and Pro Bowl honors in each of his years with Chicago, before being traded t the Philadelphia Eagles in 1967. After two years with the Eagles, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he played four more seasons, catching a touchdown pass in the Cowboy's 24-3 Super Bowl VI victory over the Miami Dolphins. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on July 30, 1988.
Ditka retired as a player following the 1972 season, but was soon hired by the Cowboy's head coach, Tom Landry, as an offensive assistant and special teams coach. In his nine seasons as an assistant coach with the Cowboys, his teams were in the playoffs eight times and won six division titles, three NFC Championships and the 1978 Super Bowl.

Ditka was born October 19, 1939 in Carnegie, PA., and raised in Aliquippa, PA. He enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and was an All-American as a senior in 1960. Ditka and his wife, Diana, reside in New Orleans and have four children.
